Sportpesa betting company has been out of the Kenyan sports world for some time now. This was after the government increased the tax on betting from 10% to 20%.
Among the companies that pulled down the operations was Sportpesa. At the time of withdrawing its operations, it plunged confusion to the sporting industry.
The departure hit Kenya football federation, Gor Mahia, and AFC leopards hard since they depended on SportPesa’s sponsorship.
The return of sports to the country is occasioned by signing into law the finance bill, which removes the 20% excise tax on sportsbook stakes.
Announcing their return on their social media channels, SportPesa wrote, “Sportpesa is delighted to resume operations in Kenya. We are pleased to announce to you once again offer gaming services to our customers. SportPesa is looking forward to exploring a wide range of new partnerships in the country for the next months. Thank you for your support.”
