Pursuing a profession as a DJ was subject to societal disapproval until recently. This transformation has been initiated by the substantial earnings of certain performers and a growing desire for their offerings.

DJs have become essential in various settings such as parties, clubs, radio stations, churches, and TV stations. DJ Joe Mfalme has gained significant renown and is highly in demand as one of the country’s top disc jockeys.

The acclaimed DJ has showcased their talent on both domestic and global platforms of significant magnitude. He has been employed by one of the largest radio stations in the nation for over ten years and is renowned for his versatility, as he is capable of performing music from various genres.

From an early age, DJ Joe aspired to become a disc jockey in the future. He found inspiration from DJ Pinye and similar figures. In addition, he dedicated a significant portion of his time to actively listening to various international DJs and skillfully integrated their music mixing techniques into his own.

He persevered with this aspiration and now he is widely recognized in Kenya, having showcased his talent at Capital FM, K24, and Trace Africa. He has a preference for the music genres of dancehall, crunk, and old school hip hop.

In 2020, he established his own fashionable sports bar named The Tap on Baricho road, Nairobi.

He was hired as their in-house disc jockey and stayed at the station for over ten years. DJ Joe Mfalme grew intimately linked to the station.

He announced his departure from Capital FM in 2021, following a 12-year term.

I’d want to thank the Capital FM community for giving a young person from Meru the opportunity to entertain people via the skill of deejaying. “Working with Capital FM Kenya has helped me make some of my most treasured memories. “I am eternally grateful to them for the personal and professional development they have provided me,” he stated.

During his time at the station, he performed at several high-profile events, including Big Brother Africa 2010-11, 2010 World Cup parties in South Africa, the Dallas Memorial Kenyan Reunion party 2010-11 in the United States, and the 2010 Pilsner Mfalme Hottest Media DJ competition in Kenya.

The disc jockey also owns a company that offers DJ services for corporate parties, gigs, family gatherings, and other events. After leaving Capital FM, he briefly worked

for Homeboyz Radio.

DJ Joe Mfalme is married to Ephy Preston.

Awards

He won the title of Best Media DJ in 2009 after beating off competitors from other nearby radio stations.

He was named Best DJ Africa at the 2016 AFRIMMA Awards.

Murder story

After getting himself and his co-hosts Shaffie Weru and Neville embroiled in controversy for allegedly offensive comments made on air, the DJ’s shift to Homeboyz radio was a disaster.

After 20-year-old Eunice Wangari rejected a man’s sexual advances, the trio stepped in to defend him. The three individuals’ employment with Homeboyz Radio was terminated, according to a statement released by General Manager Somoina Kimojino:

The comments of said erstwhile employees, were neither authorized, approved nor cleared with the company nor was the subject discussed and/or authorized by the company’s senior leadership. We are deeply disappointed in their conduct .We have determined that their conduct constitutes gross misconduct and an egregious breach of the company’s editorial policies. The company and its subsidiaries do not condone gender-based violence or any form of physical, verbal and emotional abuse nor does it subscribe to the view shared by the three employees.”

A lovely house was given to the DJ’s mother as a gift. Regarding the home and his chosen profession, he stated:

My parents were told things like, “kijana yako sasa amekua mkora” when I was younger, and I’ll never forget how certain people in shaggz made fun of us and tried to discourage me from being a DJ.
