Willis Raburu in Machakos people’s park

One of the most exciting public events during the COVID-19 period was the first Gengetone festival. The event was advertised on both television channels and radio stations.

From the advertisements, tickets for the show were selling at a whooping Ksh 4500. The event was to go down on Saturday the 31st of October 2020 at the famous Machakos People’s park in Machakos county.

If the photos making rounds online are anything to go by, the event was a no show. One Willis Raburu, the citizen tv news anchor, was among the notable personalities who graced the occasion.

The pictures only showed a handful of fans who were observing social distance. Going by the popularity of Gengetone music among teenagers, one could have assumed that The Machakos People’s Park is filled. What went wrong?

Netizens were quick to conclude that Willis Raburu may have been the reason for the event’s flopping. Taking to his social media accounts, Raburu denied the claims.

“Lakini majamaa event haukuwa yangu yawa. I attended as MC and upcoming artist jameni hata mimi sijamaliziwa. Anyway, full statement soon.”Raburu said.

Various artists graced the event. Among the artists present were Boondocks Gang, Sailors, Jua Cali, Ethic Entertainment, Wakali Wao and Kartelo.
